Dog-friendly pubs in Didsbury

Didsbury is built for dogs. Fletcher Moss Gardens, Marie Louise Gardens and the Mersey Valley trail are all within a 15-minute walk of the village, and almost every pub in the area has adjusted accordingly - water bowls by the door, dog treats behind the bar, and at least one staff member who'll make a fuss of your spaniel. The standard has crept up steadily over the last decade to the point where being dog-unfriendly in Didsbury would be commercially mad.

The Fletcher Moss pub itself, on Wilmslow Road, is the obvious starting point - directly opposite the gardens, big beer garden, and they keep a stack of branded dog towels by the door for rainy days. The Didsbury (also Wilmslow Road) and the Crown in West Didsbury are the other two with the strongest dog-walking reputations.

For a proper post-Mersey-Valley pint, head to the Nelson on Burton Road or the Metropolitan further down the same road. Both have well-fenced beer gardens, both will bring your dog a sausage if you ask nicely on a quiet afternoon, and both serve the kind of food that means you can stay for lunch rather than just a quick one.

A few etiquette notes most Didsbury locals will appreciate: keep dogs on a short lead near the bar, don't take them up on the booth seating without checking first, and clean up any wet-dog mess before you leave. Most of these pubs are dog-friendly because their regulars insist on it - keep the standard up and the bowls stay out.
