Best student pub deals in Manchester

Manchester is still one of the best student cities in the UK for going out cheaply, but the days of £2 pints are mostly gone. The good news: pretty much every pub on the Oxford Road corridor offers some kind of student deal if you ask, and a UniDays or TOTUM card opens a lot of doors. Always ask at the bar - discounts often aren't advertised.

Sandbar on Grosvenor Street is the classic indie student haunt - guest ales rotating weekly, cheap spirits, and a £3.80 student pint on cask all week. The beer garden is genuinely good in summer and they host quizzes and open mics most weeknights.

Black Dog Ballroom near Oxford Road station does half-price pool tables on student ID before 7pm, plus a 2-for-1 cocktail happy hour Mon–Thurs. Food is decent enough to soak up the drinks. Their NQ branch on Church Street runs the same deals.

The Font (Oxford Road and Chorlton) is the spiritual home of cheap student cocktails - £4.50 cocktails all day, every day. Not a real pub, but unavoidable in any conversation about cheap nights out. Same goes for Kro Bar further up Oxford Road, which keeps a student pint around £4 and does decent burgers.

For pure cheapness, The Salisbury (Wetherspoons) on Wakefield Street and The Paramount on Oxford Street are unbeatable - sub-£4 pints with the app, breakfast under £5, and unlimited filter coffee for £1.85 if you're stretching study sessions. Big O on Oxford Road also pours pints under £4 and runs a £6 burger-and-pint combo.

Beyond the corridor, head to Withington for The Red Lion (huge beer garden, student-friendly prices), or Fallowfield's Friendship Inn for the classic post-tutorial pint.
