Best pubs near Old Trafford on matchday

Old Trafford is one of the better-served grounds in the country for pre-match pubs. The walk from the Trafford Park / Salford Quays cluster on one side, through Stretford on the other, and up Chester Road towards Hulme covers maybe a dozen genuinely good pubs that can absorb a matchday crowd without falling apart. Get there 90 minutes before kick-off and you'll have a choice; get there 30 minutes before and you'll be queuing three-deep.

The Bishop Blaize on Chester Road is the most famous matchday pub on the United side, partly for the songs and partly because it's a 5-minute walk to the East Stand. It's loud, packed and the bar takes 10 minutes to navigate before kick-off - go early or skip it. The Trafford on White City Way and the Quadrant on Stretford Road are calmer alternatives in the same walking radius.

If you want a proper sit-down pint with the build-up on TV rather than a sing-along scrum, head south towards Stretford itself. The Robin Hood, the Sevens Social and the Stretford Sports Bar are all 15–20 minutes' walk from the ground but feel like proper pubs rather than matchday holding pens. Pints are usually £1 cheaper than the Chester Road strip too.

Avoid the bars inside the ground for anything other than a quick half - concourse pints are £7+, take 15 minutes to queue for, and you'll miss the goal. The exception is the South Stand bar at half-time, which is consistently the fastest queue in the stadium for reasons no one can quite explain.
