The quality gap between them is smaller than the price gap. You can pay £14 for a cocktail on Deansgate and £8 for a better one on Thomas Street.

If you want atmosphere over polish, start in the Northern Quarter. If you want a room that feels like an occasion, Spinningfields does it properly. For beer rather than cocktails, Ancoats and the Green Quarter taprooms pour the best range in the city, and a third of them are within ten minutes of each other on foot.
